Goals & Objectives
About GREENS
GREENS (A Training Programme on 5Rs Implementation in Micro and Nanorobotic Design, Manufacturing, and Application) is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) - Doctoral Network funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe. This multidisciplinary initiative brings together leading European universities, research centers, and industry partners to train the next generation of researchers in the development of sustainable micro and nanorobotics.
Micro and nanoscale robotic platforms have garnered attention for their precision and potential to revolutionise biomedicine and environmental applications. These robots provide targeted drug delivery, enhanced reactivity, and the possibility for large-scale automation. However, the waste management cycle associated with their fabrication and use presents significant challenges. Supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the GREENS project will implement the 5R (Reduce, Recycle, Rethink, Repair, and Reuse) principle for the first time, spanning from the manufacturing stage to the final implementation and removal of nano/micro-robotic platforms, with a focus on minimising environmental impact throughout the process. This initiative aligns with the European Commission’s sustainable development goals and is a key component of its Environmental Action Programme.
Mission
We aim to revolutionize the field of micro/nanorobotic technologies by integrating the 5Rs principle (Reduce, Recycle, Rethink, Repair, and Reuse) into every stage of design, fabrication, and application. By fostering environmentally responsible approaches, GREENS aligns with the EU’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Green Deal, ensuring minimal environmental impact while maximizing innovation.
Focus Areas
- Sustainable Design – Developing degradable and recyclable materials for micro/nanorobots.
- Advanced Fabrication – Exploring cost-efficient, scalable production methods.
- Eco-Friendly Applications – Implementing microrobots for biomedical, environmental, and industrial use cases.
- Doctoral Training – Providing top-tier PhD fellowships with hands-on training and intersectoral collaboration.
Who We Are
GREENS is a collaborative effort between top-tier European institutions and industry leaders, creating a dynamic ecosystem for research, innovation, and knowledge transfer. Our network ensures that early-stage researchers (ESRs) gain expertise in cutting-edge nanotechnology, biomaterials, intelligent materials, and life cycle analysis.
